Chia Seeds
Chia Seeds
Have you tried them? Those little tiny seeds are one of the most powerful foods on earth! It's no wonder they literally mean "strength".
Chia seeds are packed with anti-oxidants and nutrients that are important for your body to function; fiber, fat, calcium, manganese, magnesium and phosphorus, omega-3s and protein (a vital staple in any vegetarian diet)
AND they are so versatile and can be used in so many dishes, as toppings or a snack on their own! Because they are known to help with decreasing blood sugar, improving heart health, and have such a low carb content they are EXCELLENT replacements for foods such as oatmeal.
My favorite way to eat Chia is in Chia Pudding! This is a great replacement for oatmeal which can be high in sugars once converted in the body. The recipe is SO easy and takes no time at all!
You Will Need
- 2 tablespoons Chia seeds
- 1/2 cup of milk ( I prefer unsweetened Almond milk)
- honey if you would like to sweeten (optional)
- toppings of choice-fresh berries, bananas, flaxseeds, raisins, coconut flakes, etc
The night before, mix together the milk and chia seeds in a mason jar or glass tupperware, or any plate with a lid. Make sure the chia seeds are completely immersed in the milk so that they aren't dried out the next morning. Once completely immersed, put the mixture in the refrigerator and leave overnight. The next morning, the chia should be a bit more jelly-like and you can add in your toppings and enjoy!
To increase the recipe, just add a half cup of milk for every 2 tablespoons of chia.
